SSRU Marks the 146th Anniversary of the Passing of Queen Sunandha Kumariratana with a Solemn Royal Memorial Service

BANGKOK – On Sunday, May 31, 2026, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU) organized a royal merit-making and memorial service to commemorate the 146th anniversary of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sunandha Kumariratana, The Royal Consort. The ceremony took place at Wat Ratchabophit Sathitmahasimaram in Bangkok, held in profound gratitude and remembrance of Her Majesty's enduring virtues and royal grace.

Associate Professor Dr. Witthaya Mekkham, Acting President of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, presided over the auspicious ceremony. He led a delegation of university executives, faculty members, staff, current students, and alumni in paying tribute.

The commemoration commenced with a formal wreath-laying and floral tribute ceremony at the Royal Cemetery within the temple grounds. Following this, the delegation gathered inside the Royal Vihara (Phra Viharn) for the sacred merit-making service. The religious proceedings included Buddhist chanting, the offering of Bang Sukula robes, and the presentation of four necessities (Chatu Patchai Thaiyatham) to the venerable monks to dedicate royal merits to the late Queen.

Her Majesty Queen Sunandha Kumariratana, a beloved Royal Consort of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), remains the spiritual anchor and the inspiration behind the university’s name. The SSRU community continues to hold Her Majesty's boundless benevolence in the highest regard and vows to preserve and honor her royal legacy for generations to come.
